The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen is fantastic. All of the people who work/ volunteer there are knowledgable, friendly, and extremely accommodating. Their programs are fun and they constantly try to create new events for kids and adults. The book that they recently published on Wintergreen history "For the Love of the Land" is truly entertaining and informative and everyone who has a property at Wintergreen should get it and everyone who works at Wintergreen should read it. I gift it to clients all the time. I am especially excited about their mid of the week hikes. Like the "Journey to High Places" series has been my favorite. If you want to explore local trails but also challenge yourself physically, this is a great way to do it. My hobby is Nature Photography so getting to see and capture amazing vistas while on these hikes, just adds to the thrill. This is a great organization, one completely worth of supporting.
When we moved to Wintergreen Resort, the first organization my family joined was the Nature Foundation at Wintergreen. The career staff, many whom have grown up in the area, and volunteers really care about Wintergreen and the surrounding natural areas. They are knowledgeable, friendly and do everything they can to ensure you and your family have a safe and enjoyable time. Don’t know where to hike, “just ask?” and they will provide hiking recommendations based on your skill level and what you are interested in seeing – waterfalls, foliage, mountains, overlooks, etc. The Organization offers guided hikes on Saturdays and weekdays “Journey to High Places” that allow you to meet other outdoor enthusiasts who want to experience the beauty of the area. I have done many of these hikes and have never been disappointed. The Foundation also provides excellent lectures that are well designed and engaging for participants of all ages – Owl Prowl, Star gazing, Caving, Natural Landscaping, Maple Sugar Days, Spring Wildflower Symposium and many more. I encourage you to please stop by the next time you visit Wintergreen Resort - you will not be disappointed. Oh and be sure to look for their resident bear. ☺
The programs we have attended have been excellent! The staff knows not only the uniqueness of the surrounding nature but the history of the area, going back millions of years, which makes us appreciate Wintergreen even more! I recently attended an Owl Prowl, where we learned about the owls typical in this locale. They even had a live baby barred owl, brought in from the nearby wildlife sanctuary. The kids were fascinated!
My family and I love the Nature Foundation! We started visiting regularly 6 months ago and have appreciated the programs and friendliness of the staff. Our 7 year old and 5 year old never tire of playing in the "Robin's Nest" upstairs---from puppet shows and board games, to books, puzzles, and toys, we can spend a couple of hours enjoying the space made especially for children. The pancake breakfast last week was well done! And in the words of my husband, the 2016 Wintergreen Maple Syrup "was the best I've ever tasted!" We look forward to more outdoor programs and hikes as the weather warms up. Thank you, Nature Foundation, for all you offer!
